Fall To Death
In this dream I was going along through a field covered with snow. I was standing upright and moving quickly, sliding along. I was approaching a two lane road that had a wide sweeping curve from left to right. It had a guardrail on both sides and also had snow and a few cars on it. As I slid up to the guardrail and the bank of snow against it I slid over the snow like a ramp and went flying through the air over the road. I thought this was great fun until to my horror I saw that the drop off on the other side of the road was 50,000 feet. I flew out into the space and was screaming. As I looked down I could see the cars that looked like ants far far below. I was falling and falling, screaming and screaming. After several minutes I was still falling and screaming, it seemed to have no end. Then as I fell and the wind was whipping all around me I just relaxed. I lay on my back putting my hands behind my head as though reclining in a chair. I said, “Whether I live or whether I die, I am the Lord’s.” Still falling and the wind whipping around me a great sense of peace came over me. I could see I was approaching the ground at a breakneck speed and here it came rising up beneath me. My view just as I smashed into the ground was a typical scene of just a field of grass with a few trees scattered about. SMACK! Right into the ground I crashed – then something amazing happened. In a split second everything turned totally black. Then in another split second I sprang to my feet laughing joyfully facing Jesus who stood right in front of me. He was smiling and laughing and somehow I knew that when I died I simply moved from one place to another instantly and death could not hold me. As we laughed together, I looked at him and said, “Do it again!” He pointed his finger at me and instantly I died again and went into total darkness and again instantly was back on my feet standing in front of him. Both of us were laughing our heads off! I said, “Do it again!” He pointed his finger at me and I died, went into total darkness, and immediately was back standing before him. Over and over again we did this. “Do it again!” I said, and he did. The whole time we were both just laughing and laughing I was thinking that I should ask him to do it more because maybe the more times we do this the more times I could be raised from the dead as though I was making a deposit into a resurrection account to draw upon later. Finally I said okay that’s enough. I tried to count the number of times we did this - it was 5-7 times.
I used to have a sense of mortality always thinking of trying to make something of my life before I die. Now I realize that I will never die, I will simply change locations and the life that I have will continue not only in fellowship with him, but then also in his presence. Consider what God says:
For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. Romans 14:7, 8
For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. II Corinthians 4:11
…and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. II Corinthians 5:15
So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 1 Corinthians 15:54-55
