The Hulk
I was walking along a dirt road with a field to my right. Trees bordered the field in the distance. To my left was an old tree post fence with various shrubs and trees all along the road. About fifty yards ahead was a small hill rising up to where a town was located. I could see a few old buildings. Suddenly there at the top of the hill was an evil being on a motorcycle – the devil or a demon. He glared at me and gunned his motorcycle aiming at me. Then down he came at a racing speed toward me. As he zoomed by he reached out and swung at me trying to hit me with something – I think it was a newspaper. I dove to the ground lying face first in the road as he sped on. I looked down the road to see him slide sideways spraying dust and rocks as he came to a stop about a hundred yards away. He sat there revving the engine of his bike still glaring at me. I knew he was going to come at me again so I tried to get up. “What’s going on”, I thought as I tried to move, but I could not move at all! I was face down in a pushup position and was trying to push myself up with my arms but I couldn’t budge, and here he came. I could hear the roar of the engine and the sound of the dirt and rocks on the road. I cried out, “Lord if you don’t help me, I’m a goner!”
Jesus appeared a short distance away as if floating in air and said, “It’s in you.” Not the answer I was expecting or hoping for, but I looked at him and again he had that knowing look in his eye. A look of confidence and faith, of knowledge and understanding and yet compassionate to the core. I looked at him and thought, “I have no strength, I’ve been trying to get up, but can’t, but Jesus cannot lie and if he says ‘It’s in me’ then it’s in me…okay here goes.” I began pushing with my arms against the ground as hard as I could. The sound of the motorcycle was closing, but I was not moving at all. Harder and harder I pushed, reaching deep within me I pushed harder than I even thought was possible. As my entire body trembled and shook like Olympic weight lifters raising heavy loads over their heads I moved up about an inch. Now here I was barely off the ground shaking and trembling exerting so much force even I could hardly believe it was possible to push and strain so hard. Slowly…slowly I began to rise just a little higher. I kept on. Inch by inch I raised up, but still it was so slow, and I barely moved at all. Finally I was at that position where my arms were bent at the elbows and my chest was about a foot off the ground. Sweat was rolling off my arms and face as I trembled at the strain of just holding that position. I couldn’t move any higher no matter how hard I tried. The words of Jesus kept coming to me, “It’s in you.” I didn’t feel like anything was in me, but I knew it must be true. All the strength I had was gone and I was about to collapse to the ground and all I could think of was “hold on a little longer”. Like a bolt of lightning I shot up on my feet and saw the motorcycle fall to the ground. In a flash I let out a roar that filled the air and I was transformed into a large hulk with muscles budging out everywhere. I kept roaring this one continuous roar as I flexed my arms down and around like a hug. At the same time suddenly before me in this field were thousands and thousands of demons screaming, scattering in wild pandemonium. They were utterly terrified and confused in the midst of one giant panic attack. They instantly shot thousands of arrows into the air; arching, crisscrossing the field in waves with hundreds of stray arrows going in all directions as well. The sound of my own roar mixed with their screams was deafening. Then they were gone and I was standing in the road as my normal self.
I am not sure about all the meanings there are in this dream, but I know this: When God placed his spirit within us when we were born again that indwelling included such an overwhelming abundance of all he is that we have never fully realized throughout history to this day. When Jesus says, “It’s in you,” he means it. What exactly is in us? All of him. All of his power and authority as well as his grace and mercy, his judgment and compassion, everything he is; is in us. Consider what God says:
Of his fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. John 1:16
As he is so are we in this world. I John 4:17
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27
For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. III John 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ…In Him also we have obtained an inheritance,…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1
