First Fish
After I had been practicing the truth of saying what God says for about a year, the Holy Spirit put it in my heart to apply it to fishing with my son. So I said to him. "Son, next weekend we are going fishing and you will catch your first fish." I went to buy a fishing lure and said to the clerk, "I am taking my son fishing this weekend and he will catch his first fish." I began saying that to everyone everywhere I went. At every store I went to, at the gas station, when I went out to eat, even at the drive through window. I said it to God. I began believing it! It was in my heart as something that was a done deal. It was already a fact! I knew it. That being the case, I went to the store to buy one of those one time use cameras. As I paid for it I said, "I am buying this so I can take a picture of my son catching his first fish this weekend!"
Finally the weekend came. I picked up my son, we loaded up our fishing tackle, and off we went to the lake. On the way there I began thanking God out loud for the fish he was going to catch. I began praising Him for it and continued to talk about it. We arrived at the lake took our stuff out on the dock and set it down. My son knew I had been practicing this truth of saying what God says as I had shared it with him several times before, but now he was about to experience it for himself. I said, "Son now we are going to speak directly to the fish and call them to come to us." So we stood up on the dock and for fifteen minutes we yelled out across the lake. "Fish in the name of Jesus come and bite this line. Calling all fish, calling all fish, come and bite this line. We promise we will not hurt you, we will put you back into the water. In the name of Jesus come to us and bite this line." I felt a little foolish and at one point I even thought of stopping, but the Lord spoke very clearly to me saying, "Just as you commanded the dogs to go (another story), you can command the fish to come." So we just kept on yelling. I felt even more foolish when I saw another fisherman on the next dock about 175 feet away, but we kept on yelling.
We sat down and I picked up the rod and reel attaching the lure. Then I showed my son how to cast it by pressing down the button and releasing it as you swing it out. I handed it to him and in less than two minutes he had made three casts. He did not need to make another cast because he had caught his first fish! A great big catfish as big as his lower leg!
We decided to go swimming at another part of the lake. On the way back I decided to stop by the same dock where we were fishing because I wanted to try that again. So I went out onto the dock and yelled for about three minutes. Then in less than a minute on my second cast I caught a catfish about half the size of my son's. I began to wonder if I had spoken longer would I have caught a bigger fish. Then I began to wonder if this would be allowed in those big fishing tournaments! We went home praising God for the truth of His word and His faithfulness in fulfilling His word for God says, "I watch over my word to fulfill it!"
